Two bids were submitted to the Lincoln County School DistrictTuesday for the re-opening of the old Mallalieu Oil Field, but nodecision was made on which would be accepted.

After opening the bids at a recessed meeting, the board opted toturn the bids over to lawyers for advice.

“I feel like at this time our best recourse is to get legaladvice. I am at this point not sure what to do regarding thesebids,” Lincoln County Superintendent of Education Perry Miller toldboard members.

The confusion came from the bids differing in how much thedistrict would be paid for the exploration, mining production anddevelopment of the oil, gas and minerals on the east half of theSection 16, Township 6 North, Range 8 East.

Although the bid from Denbury Resources Inc. had the highestbonus amount, board members wanted more time to review the secondbid from Tommy R. Burns of Bogue Chitto.

Miller said it appeared Burns was offering a smaller bonus, butthe 3/16 royalties might make it a more competitive bid.

“My recommendation for the school board is that we take thesebids under advisement,” said Miller after taking a long pause whilereading over both bids.

The board agreed that it would be best not to make a rashdecision. They decided to recess the meeting until the district’slawyers could look over the documents and advise them on the bestbid.

“As soon as we can, we’ll get back. I feel reasonably sure thatwithin three days we can come back together,” said Miller.

Before the meeting was recessed, board members changed the timeof their next regularly scheduled to 4:30 p.m., rather than 5:30p.m., on May 6 in the central office board room.
