Brakemen in Saturday split at Clinton

CLINTON -The Brookhaven Brakemen rode the pitching of JacobBlakeney to victory in Saturday’s opener as the Brakemen beatClinton’s Lumberjacks 2-1 at Frierson Field. In the nightcap,called after 6 innings, Clinton rallied for four runs its finalturn at bat to clip the Brakemen 6-5.
Brookhaven (3-1) hosts the Jackson Senators today, starting theCotton State League twinbill at 2:30 on Brookhaven Academy’sdiamond.

Blakeney picked up the win in 6 innings. He allowed 1 earned runon 6 hits, struck out 9 and walked 1.
Michael Edwards went 1 inning and got the save. He held theLumberjacks hitless, striking out 1 batter and walking 1.
Michael Wakefield, an Ole Miss signee, absorbed the loss ingoing the distance. He allowed 2 runs on 3 hits, fanned 8 and andwalked 2.
A double by Clinton’s Chris Leguenec was the only extra-base hitof the game and produced a first-inning RBI. Shortstop Mario Thomashad 2 singles for Clinton.
Collecting singles for Brookhaven were Vance Windom, JeffreyWaycaster and Ben Davis.
In the second inning, Waycaster led off with a walk. Windomsingled. Goza reached on an error to load the bases. Davis was safeon a fielder’s choice and collected an RBI as Windom scored. Gozascored the second run on a passed ball.
Clinton 6, Brookhaven 5
Tyler Peret started on the mound for Brookhaven and was relievedin the fourth by Cass Brister. Peret gave up 3 hits, struck out 1,hit 1 and walked 4.
Brister went 2 frames. He gave up 5 runs, 3 of them earned,fanned 1 and walked 4.
Leggett replaced Brister in the bottom of the sixth. In 2/3 ofan inning. He gave up 1 unearned run, 1 hit and fanned 1batter.
Michael Walton started for Clinton and went 2 innings. He gaveup 4 runs, 2 of them earned. He allowed 1 hit, fanned 3 and walked4.
Walton was replaced by Thomas who went the final 4 innings.Thomas allowed 1 earned run, 3 hits, fanned 1 and walked 1.
Third baseman Ryan Roberson had 2 hits for the Jacks.
Hitting safely for Brookhaven were Waycaster, Windom, BrandonHubbard and Seth Lofton. Waycaster had a 2-out RBI single in thefirst and then a groundout RBI in the second.
Clinton rallied for 4 runs in the bottom of the sixth. Bristerwalked the bases loaded before Leggett relieved. A wild pitch, asacrifice fly, and a fielding error kept the rally alive.
