Grace Sorrels Holiday, 87, of Canton, died Saturday, March 22,2008, at her home.

Visitation will be Tuesday, March 25, from 10 until 11 a.m. atthe First United Methodist Church with burial in Canton Cemetery.Dr. Roger McGrew and the Rev. Joe Landrum will officiate. BreelandFuneral Home in Canton is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Holliday was born Aug. 8, 1920, in Bradenton, Fla., to thelate Joseph Allen and Lillian McGinty Sorrels.

On Nov. 6, 1936, Grace married Samuel Newton Holiday Jr., inMadison County. She was a loving and devoted mother and grandmotherwho always put her children first. They lived in Sharon until 1957when they moved to Canton. She was the buyer and bookkeeper forHolliday Homes and also a furniture sales associate with Gayler’sDepartment Store for many years. She was an avid gardener and herlove of antiques and flair for decorating were well known.

Grace was a dedicated member of First United Methodist Church, aSunday School teacher, a Methodist Conference delegate, a member ofthe Frances Brown Sunday School Class, United Methodist Women andthe Blanche Howell Circle. She also belonged to the Canton GardenClub, Home Demonstration Club, Maids and Matrons and the MoonShooter’s Rook Club.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, SamuelNewton Holliday; her parents; her brother, Joseph Allen SorrelsJr.; her sisters, Louise S. de Ovies, Maxine Sorrels, Willa S.Silva, Lillian S. McQueary, Beatrice S. Downey, Alva S. White,Bessie S. Milling and Mavis S. Belk.

She is survived by her son, Samuel Newton Holliday III, ofCanton; daughters, Elizabeth H. Arrington, of Brookhaven, andKathryn H, Carter, of Clinton; grandsons, Samuel Keith Arrington(Tina), Wesley Clark Arrington (Angela), of Hattiesburg, StanleyMarvin Holliday, of Canton, Michelle Carter Brown (Joey), ofClinton, Leigh Carter Michaels (Sam), of Sumrall; sisters, DorothyS. Myers, of Columbus, Ga., and Carolyn S. Collins (Earl), ofCanton; sister-in-law, Jeanine Sorrels, of Dallas; and numerousgreat-grandchildren and nieces and nephews. Memorials may be madein her memory to First United Methodist Church, 3301 S. LibertySt., Canton MS 39046.

Serving as pallbearers are Keith Arrington, Wes Arrington,Andrew Arrington, Stan Holliday, Joey Brown, Sam Michaels, BobbyHolliday and Travis Putnam.

The family would like to say a special thank you to her sister,Carolyn Collins, for her love and devotion through the years and aspecial thanks to Grace’s final caregiver, Nicole Sellers, herdoctor, Dr. Paul Vanlandingham, and her many friends andfamily.
