Tanner Parvin pitched a 7-strikeout, 3-hitter and the Brookhaven Academy Cougars crushed Columbia Academy 9-1 Tuesday night in a District 5-AA baseball showdown at Harold Williams Ballpark. Tanner only issued 1 base on balls as the hosts raised their district-leading record to 4-0 and climbed to 9-8 overall.
“Tanner was extremely outstanding again tonight,” said BA coach Casey Edwards. “Columbia is a much-improved team but we answered offensively again.”
Edwards had watched his team struggle through a 7-game losing streak before they righted themselves. “We lost a bunch of close games but our kids never gave up and got down on themselves.”
Senior Gage Posey powered the Cougars with a home run, a single and 3 RBI. Steven Williams doubled twice. Landon Nettles and J.P. Jackson had 2 hits apiece. Nettles accounted for 2 RBI.
Singles were provided by Matthew Evans and Heath Hickman.
Edwards said his Cougars can clinch the district title with a win Friday night at Columbia Academy. The junior varsity game begins at 4:30, followed by the varsity at 6:30.
Patrick Burge (4K, 5BB) was the losing pitcher. His team fell behind 1-0 in the third frame and gave up 6 runs in the fourth.
