MONTICELLO – The McComb Tigers used a second-half to eliminatethe Brookhaven Panthers from the Division 6-4A tournament 66-50 atthe Lawrence County Gym Wednesday night.

McComb improves to 25-5 while Brookhaven concludes their seasonat 9-20. It is Ole Brook’s first losing record in over 35years.

In other first-round tournament action, McComb’s Lady Tigersdismissed the South Pike Lady Eagles 56-48 and Terry defeatedWingfield 72-64 in boys play.

The McComb girls and boys are the defending tournamentchampions.

Today’s semifinals feature 4 games, beginning at 4 p.m., withNo. 1-seed Wingfield girls taking on No. 5-seed McComb. No. 1-seedJim Hill boys meet Terry at 5:30. No. 2-seed Brookhaven gets No.3-seed Jim Hill in a girls matchup at 7, followed by the No. 2-seedLawrence County and No. 3-seed McComb boys at 8:30. Allsemifinalists are guaranteed at least 3 more games in theirseasons.

McComb 66, Brookhaven 50

The Tigers took control of this game early, with DemarionAddison scoring 7 points inside. His efforts gave McComb a 15-9lead, heading into the second period.

The Panthers fought back to cut their deficit to 4 points, 24-20at the intermission. Senior center Michael Thrasher and freshmanCharles Rancifer combined for 9 points in the period.

Ole Brook, coached by Ronald Hines, continue to plow away at theTigers. Consecutive treys by Thrasher gave the Panthers a 33-28lead midway through the third. Thrasher led Brookhaven with 15points and 5 rebounds. Jerome Avery had 3 steals and 3 assists.Charles Rancifer had 3 assists.

Hines’ ballclub went cold from the field. McComb authored a 12-0run that Ole Brook never recovered from; taking a 40-33 advantageinto the final frame. Addison and James Morris combined for 10points in the scoring flurry. Addison led all scorers with 20points.

Both teams were deadlocked 28-28 on the boards. McComb had 11turnovers, compared to 18 by the Panthers.

McComb 56, South Pike 48

The Lady Tigers (13-16) were by senior post player Stacey Morriswith 17 points. Ryan Tobias followed with 14 points for head coachCarolyn Whitehead.

South Pike (9-19), coached by Marcus Flippin, got a game-high 19points from Latarsha Marsalis.

Terry 72, Wingfield 64

The No. 4-seeded Bulldogs were led by Matthew Fortson with 16points, followed by Anthony Dixon with 12. Terry is coached byReggie Magee.

Wingfield, coached by Herman Sanders, got a game-high 24 pointsfrom Tim Kendrick, with Corey Sanders tossing in 14.
