Brookhaven Academy wins South State AA title

Brookhaven Academy senior right-hander Tyler Parvin was the mainman Thursday night. Parvin pitched for two wins as the BA Cougarsdefeat the Centreville Academy Tigers 12-2 in five innings and 5-3for the South State AA Baseball title in the best-of-threeseries.
Brookhaven fell to Centreville 11-1 in Tuesday’s first game of theseries. The Cougars improve to 27-8 and the Tigers fell to22-11.
BA meets North AA Champ Hillcrest Christian for the State AA crownnext week. Hillcrest Christian defeated Simpson County 8-0 lastnight.
“It was a team effort,” said Parvin. “I couldn’t have done itwithout them. I loved them all. We played hard and did not quit. Iwas glad that the coach let me finish the game.”
Parvin, a senior, got the win in both games. He finished the daywith a combined 6 strikeouts, 5 walks and 1 hit batter.
BA first year head baseball coach Casey Edwards had confidence inParvin.
“I never thought we were out of it,” said BA head baseball coachCasey Edwards. “We believed we were still in the driver’s seat. Wehad our best practice of the year yesterday. Our confidence wasthere. Tyler Parvin is the man.”
Other BA players expressed their appreciation for Parvin.
“This was the farthest we ever made it,” said senior first basemanWill Gatlin. “We hit the ball hard. Tyler pitched a good game. Weare two games away.”
Sophomore centerfielder Christian “Bubba” Keene called Parvin theplayer of the game.
“Tyler was the player of the game,” said Keene. “We had good seniorleadership. We played hard and wanted to play hard for him. I’mglad to get the win and move on to state.”
CA head coach Jason Horne complemented Parvin. “Parvin pitched agreat game. We did not execute in certain situations. But webattled hard. We could not get our hits down. I am proud of myguys. We will be back.”
BA 12, CA 2
BA outhit CA 11-5 at the plate and took advantage of two Tigererrors.
Gatlin powered the Cougars with a 2-RBI home run, double and asingle. Parvin had a 2-RBI homer and doubled. Also ripping a 2-RBIhome run was Hunter McCullough. Keene doubled and singled. TrippJolly doubled. Singling were Brent Henderson and LandonNettles.
For CA, Cliff Hurst led with a homer. Hunter Travis singled twice.Doubling was Tyler Towles. Gage Chandler hit safely.
Brad Jelks (1K, 3BBs) took the loss. Chance Humphries and CoreyGaulden also saw action.
BA 5, CA 3
In the championship game, Keene doubled to drive in two runs togive BA a 4-2 lead over CA in the fourth inning. Gatlin tripled toscore Keene and give the Cougars a 5-3 lead and eventual win overthe Tigers.
Pacing BA with a triple and 2 singles was Gatlin. McCulloughsmashed his second 2-run homer of the night. Henderson doubled andsingled. Jolly, Donovan Lorraine, Will Lucas and Parvinsingled.
Hurst and Towles doubled for the Tigers. Zack Sinclair singled.
