Wesson wins homecoming

WESSON – The homecoming activities didn’t distract the WessonCobras Friday night as they handed the Salem Wildcats a 28-0beating at Stone Stadium.
“We’re glad to get the win,” said Wesson head coach RonaldGreer.
Wesson took a 7-0 lead over Salem when junior quarterback JasonShannon scored on a seven-yard run and Nick Gunter kicked his firstof four extra points with 7:08 left in the first quarter.
In the third quarter, the Cobras scored two touchdowns to pushtheir lead over the Wildcats to 21-0. Shannon scored on a six-yardrun and Billy Ray Miller caught a 34-yard pass from Shannon for thethird TD.
The final Wesson score of the game came with 11:08 left to playon a 13-yard pass-play from Shannon to Tom Burgess.
“We came out and ran the ball well on the first drive,” Greersaid. “Then we didn’t do much for the rest of the first half. Ourrushing defense did fine. Our guys did a better job in the secondhalf.”
Wesson rolled up for 15 first downs and 392 yards total offense.Salem collected 157 total offensive yards and 10 first downs.
Powering the Cobra running game with 8 carries for 69 yards wasjunior runningback Marcus Corley. Miller rushed eight times for 58yards. Shannon carried eight times for 51 yards.
Shannon completed 3 of 6 passes for 77 yards. Emanuel Sinclaircaught one pass for 10 yards.
Defensively, Russell Robinson and Miller led the Cobraswith seven tackles apiece. Chris Thornton made six stops. SamSinclair intercepted a pass.
Wesson (3-2) travels to Richland (4-1) for a Division6-2A test.
