Caleb Broome pitched an 11-strikeout, 5-hitter and the WessonCobras cruised to an 8-4 Tuesday night victory over the host LoydStar Hornets in a Division 6-2A showdown at Smith Field. Broome hadplenty of support as Matt P. Smith, Matt S. Smith and KodyChrestman slugged home runs.

Wesson (6-3, 3-0) hosts the Hornets (6-4, 2-1) for a divisiontwinbill Friday, starting at 5 p.m.

“We knew it was going to be a scrappy game,” said Wesson bossHugh Knight. “We hit the ball. I’m proud of my guys for playingconsistent.”

Wesson took a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning on Matt S.Smith’s home run. The Cobras led 4-1 as Matt P. Smith and Chrestmanhomered in the third frame. They plated 4 more runs in the top ofthe sixth.

Broome didn’t issue a walk in 7 innings. Korey Allen (4 K, 4 BB)started on the mound and took the loss. He was replaced by TylerCase (4 K, 2 BB) in the sixth.

“Wesson played well and I tip my hat to them,” said Loyd Starcoach Jonathan Breakfield. “Their pitcher did a good job. We didn’tplay bad.”

The Hornets, who made 4 errors, got a first-inning, solo homerfrom catcher Travis Keene. He also had a double.

Wesson battled Loyd Star to a 5-5 deadlock in the JV game.Doubles by Gage Wilson and Zack Stafford led the Cobras. BlakeTarver singled. Wilson (7 K, 5 BB) pitched for Wesson.

Loyd Star pitcher Austin Travis (5 K, 1 BB) started for theHornets. Brandon Canon (3 K, 0 BB) tossed 3 innings of relief.

Travis had 2 hits. Corey Funk singled.
