The Enterprise Yellow Jackets face their toughest challenge ofthe 2001 football season Friday night. Coach Rickey Deere’s Jacketsinvade Bulldog territory to face defending Class 1A state champMize, the current No. 1 team in the revamped Region 4-1A.

Only two Lincoln County teams are home Friday night, Loyd Starentertains Madison St. Joseph for homecoming and West Lincoln hostsStringer. Road games feature Brookhaven Academy at CentrevilleAcademy and Bogue Chitto at Mt. Olive. All games will begin at 7:30p.m.

Brookhaven has an open date this week.

Enterprise (7-1, 6-0) is coming off a 14-6 regioncomeback win over the St. Al Flashes at Vicksburg last Fridaynight. Mize (8-0, 6-0) whipped region archrival Mt. Olive 38-0 lastweek.

“They (Mize) mix it up pretty much,” said Deere. “Theyrun a wing-T and one back. They have some fine runningbacks in Keysand Ducksworth. Their veteran quarterback has started since ninthgrade.”

Mize is ranked No. 1 in the Associated Press Little TenPrep Poll.

Deere hopes his Jackets can do a few things to stop theBulldogs. “We have to stop their sweep and they run it well. Theyhave a wingback (Sullivan) who has been running real well lately oncounter plays. They have a fine team. We know we have to be readyto play when we get there.

“We are going to have to move it on the ground, keep theball away from them as much as we can and not make mistakes,” saidDeere. “We have to keep the turnovers down. We know we are in for abattle over there.”

Sparking the fourth-quarter rally over the St. AloysiusFlashes last Friday was senior runningback Shermaine Vaughn whoscored two fourth-quarter TDs and rushed for 77 yards. St. Althreatened but Enterprise’s Billy Reeves sacked the Flashesquarterback on the final play to secure the win.

On defense, Shermaine Vaughn led the way with 15tackles. Making 10 stops and one sack was GerardVaughn.

Bogue Chitto (7-1, 5-1) remains in third place in theRegion 4-1A race and is ranked No. 7 in the latest Associated PressPrep Poll. Bogue Chitto posted a 32-7 victory over region rivalSalem last Thursday night. The Bobcats square off against thePirates at Mt. Olive Friday night.

Bogue Chitto is seeking its third straight state playoffberth.

“Mt. Olive is a talented team,” Bogue Chitto head coachCarl Cole. “They have a bunch of eighth and ninth graders in theoffensive line.

“Our sophomores are making a big contribution to oursuccess,” added Cole.

Offensively, Bogue Chitto senior runningback DenardFerguson sparked the running game with 14 rushes for 160 yards andtwo touchdowns in the win over Salem. Following with 10 carries for124 yards and a TD was Dominique Addison.

The Bogue Chitto defense was directed by DailyLeader Defensive Player of the Week John Wallace with 19 tackles.Todd Davis made 10 stops. Wallace is a seniorlinebacker.

Loyd Star (6-2, 2-1) is coming off a 40-7Region 6-2A win over the St. Andrew’s Saints. Coach Anthony Hart’sHornets prepare for homecoming as well as region nemesis MadisonSt. Joseph Friday night.

Madison St. Joe (2-5, 1-2) handed region rival HindsAHS a 13-8 defeat last Friday.

In destroying St. Andrew’s, the Loyd Starground game got three touchdowns from senior tailback DerrickJohnson who rushed for 145 yards on 11 carries. Johnson has a totalof 950 yards on the season.

On defense, Cody Covington and Johnson led theHornets with 13 tackles apiece.

Brookhaven Academy (7-1, 1-1) is third inthe District 4-AA, trailing first place Oak Forest (6-1, 2-0) andsecond place Wilkinson Christian (5-3, 1-0). Friday night, CoachRay Ishee’s Cougars hit the road for a trip to AAA CentrevilleAcademy.

Last Friday, Brookhaven Academy celebratedhomecoming with a 43-14 win over Porter’s Chapel. CentrevilleAcademy comes into the game 6-2 overall and 2-0 in District 4-AAAplay, fresh from a 51-28 triumph over CentralPrivate.

Junior runningback Ryan Nix scored two touchdownsand finished the game with four rushes for 85 yards for theCougars. Backup fullback Jonathan Watts rushed 15 times for 48yards and scored two touchdowns.

Defensively, junior Will Rushing was the leader forthe Cougars with eight tackles and one fumblerecovery.

West Lincoln (0-8, 0-6) has a chance to postits first win of the season Friday night when the Bears host theRegion 4-1A Stringer Red Devils. Winless Stringer stands 0-7overall and 0-6 in region play after falling to Natchez Cathedral37-21 last Friday.

The Bears lost 47-7 to the Dexter Bulldogs lastThursday night. Junior tailback Stacey Fells scored the only TD forWest Lincoln on a run of four yards. Fells rushed 10 times for 66yards.

Cody Mitchell directed the Bear defense with 12tackles.
