BA teams pound Parklane

McCOMB – Abby Williams pumped in 15 points and grabbed 7rebounds as the Brookhaven Academy Lady Cougars whipped ParklaneAcademy’s Lady Pioneers 52-28 Monday night. Anna Gatlin added 10points and 7 rebounds, helping the Lady Cougars remain undefeatedin 13 games.
The Brookhaven Academy boys rolled to a 75-49 victory over thePioneers last night and remained unbeaten in 5 games. They werepaced by Alan Oster’s 17 points.
Brookhaven Academy hosts Silliman (La.) Institute tonight for aDistrict 4-AA showdown. Junior high action tips off at 4 p.m.,followed by the two varsity games.
The Lady Cougars (11-0) beat Parklane for thesecond time in six days, rolling to a 28-20 halftime lead. They hadbeaten the Lady Pioneers in the finals of the Parklane ThanksgivingTournament last Wednesday.
Brookhaven got 9 points, 8 assists and 3 steals from LaurenSmith. Kelli Byrd had 7 rebounds and Gatlin had 3 steals as CoachBarry Gray’s Cougars outscored Parklane 16-4 in the thirdquarter.
Parklane got 14 points from Michelle Cochran.
The Cougars (5-0) got 13 points from CraigSmith and Jonathan Winborne as they raced to a 43-24 halftimelead.
“We had a good game,” said BA boys coach Dale Watts. “Our boyscame out and played hard against a strong Parklane team.”
Alex Davis led the Cougars on the backboards with 7 rebounds.Oster had 5 rebounds. Layne Moreton, Winborne and Craig Smith had 2assists. Smith also had 5 steals and Moreton 3.
Parklane got 16 points from Lance Newlon and 13 from BentonTurnage.
Junior High Results
Parklane maintained its mastery of the BA girls in junior highaction, winning 35-29 last night, paced by Erin Brabham’s 8points.
Brookhaven (10-3) got 11 points and 4 rebounds from EmilyLangley. Anna Bishop scored 6 points. Joy Powell and Holly Caseeach had 5 rebounds. Jessica Diamond made 5 steals.
In the junior high boys, Brookhaven beat Parklane 48-29, led bySeth Davis with 17 points. Jeremy Winborne and Alan Gray added 7points apiece for the 4-1 Cougars.
The Pioneers got 11 points from Ben Wall.
In the seventh grade boys game, Parklane edged Brookhaven 28-24,led by Kyle Adams with 16 points. Kolby Byrd led the Cougars with 8points an Sawyer Wallace added 7.
