GALLMAN – The Copiah Academy Colonels visit Centreville AcademyFriday night in the first round of the Class AAA State playoffs.Centreville pounded Columbia Academy 37-21 while Copiah fell toMadison-Ridgeland 38-13 Friday night. Kickoff is set for 7:30p.m.

Copiah Academy, coached by David Gregory, is 2-8 overall and 2-1in District 3-AAA play. Centreville stands 7-4 on the season and2-1 in District 4-AAA.

In the first quarter, MRA drew first blood on a six-yard run byCody Chew. A PAT kick from Jordan Dennis gave MRA a 7-0 lead.

Copiah answered with a 77-yard pass-play from Jonathan Hobkirkto Patrick Williams. Thomas Garner nailed the PAT kick and tied thegame at 7-all

MRA added two more first-quarter touchdowns to go up 21-7. J.J.Jerigan rushed for a six-yard TD and Ean McMullian ran for aone-yarder. Dennis kicked both extra points.

In the second quarter, MRA scored 17 unanswered points to take a38-7 lead at halftime. Cliff Ward scored a three-yard TD, Chewrushed for nine-yard score and Dennis kicked a 36-yard fieldgoal.

Copiah scored its next touchdown in the fourth quarter on aseven yard run by Jonathan Bass. The PAT kick failed.

Powering the Colonels with six rushes for 16 yards was CharlieNunnery. Adam Allgood rushed once for 17 yards.

In the air, Hobkirk led Copiah, completing 1-of-3 passes for 77yards.

Defensively, freshman Charley Nunnery led the Colonelswith 20 tackles. Matthew Barnhart followed with nine stops. MichaelSojourner and Barnhart recovered a fumble apiece.
