Services for Exa Lee Miller of Monticello are 3 p.m., Sunday,March 7, at Monticello Methodist Protest Church with burial inBethshan Cemetery. Wilson Funeral Home is in charge ofarrangements.
Visitation is Sunday from 2-3 p.m. at the church.
Ms. Miller, 85, died March 6, 2004, at the Lawrence CountyNursing Home. She was born in Quitman on Nov. 20, 1918, to TomMiller and Delia Campbell.
She was a medical technician. She completed her training inmedical technology at Nashville General Hospital in 1946. She wasthe first medical technologist in Tennessee certified as aspecialist in blood banking, and she established the firstSpecialist in Blood Banking training program in Tennessee. Sheimplemented at Methodist Hospital the first full volunteer hospitalblood program in the City of Memphis. She set up a tissue typinglaboratory at Methodist Hospital which allowed for the first kidneytransplant in Memphis.
Ms. Miller moved to Monticello after retiring in 1982. There,she was a member of the Historical Society and the Woman’s Club.She was a member of Monticello Methodist Protestant Church, whereshe volunteered her time in the library.
Preceding her in death were her parents.
Survivors are a sister, Elgie Miller Sellers of Monticello; abrother, G.O. Miller of Monticello; one niece and twogreat-nieces.
