Bogue Chitto bags W. Lincoln Bears

BOGUE CHITTO –The West Lincoln Bears came up with 14 points inthe fourth quarter but it wasn’t nearly enough as the Bogue ChittoBobcats held on for a 36-14 win Friday night in Region 4-1A actionon Troy Smith Field. Bogue Chitto led 39-0 at the the end of thethird quarter and snapped a 5-game losing streak.
“The offense did an outstanding job by opening up holes for therunners,” said Bogue Chitto head football coach Garreth Sartin. “Wehad good running performance from Antonio Barnes. (Michael)Blackwell threw well. Luke Hale and Lange Porter did a great jobgetting open.”
Bogue Chitto went up 7-0 at the 2:17 mark in the first quarteron a six-yard run by Barnes. Todd Davis kicked his first of fourextra points.
With 1:24 left in the second quarter, Blackwell connected toPorter for a 26-yard TD and a 14-0 lead at the half.
Third-quarter action saw the Bobcats connecting for two TDs anda 29-0 lead over the Bears. Rico Lewis broke loose for a 20-yardscore and Luke Hale caught a 68-yard pass from Blackwell forpaydirt. Davis ran a two-point conversion with 3:53 left.
In the fourth quarter, West Lincoln scored its first touchdownon a 26-yard, pass-play from quarterback Blake Adams to JacobMartin. Martin kicked the PAT and the Bears cut the deficit to 29-7with 9:44 remaining in the game.
Bogue Chitto answered back at the 4:50 mark on a 49-yard run byBarnes for the 36-7 lead.
West Lincoln followed with its second and final score of thegame on a five yard run by Sam Collins. Martin tacked on the PATkick.
“We did not execute on offense,” said West Lincoln head coachWillie Brumfield. “The defense played very well but stayed on thefield too long. We must correct our mistakes and get ready forSalem. Bogue Chitto made the plays and executed when they hadtoo.”
Powering the Bogue Chitto running game with 15 rushes for 153yards was Barnes, a 153-pound eighth grader. Rushing seven timesfor 83 yards was Lewis.
The West Lincoln ground attack was sparked by Stacy Fells with22 rushes for 113 yards. Alan Skates rushed four times for 17yards.
Blackwell completed 2 of 8 passes for 94 yards for BogueChitto.
“This was a big win, especially against our county rivals,”added Sartin.
Defensively, Bogue Chitto was led by DavidAdams with eight tackles. Cody Washington, Porter and Davisfollowed with seven tackles apiece. Making six stops was Chad Moak.Blackwell and Adams intercepted a pass.
The West Lincoln defense was led by Mark Case with nine tackles.Landon Case and Dan Lofton collected five tackles apiece. WestonYoung had two sacks and one tackle. Lofton also recovered afumble.
Bogue Chitto (1-5, 2-2) visits powerhouse Dexter (3-1, 3-1).Winless Salem (0-5, 0-4) is at West Lincoln (0-6, 0-4) Friday nightfor region games. Mize (4-2, 3-1) beat Dexter 27-21 Friday.
