Services for Howard L. “Suzie” Thames of Monticello are 2 p.m.,Tuesday, Oct. 15, at Wilson Funeral Home Chapel with burial inBethel Baptist Church Cemetery.

Mr. Thames, 79, died Oct. 13, 2002, at St. Dominic’s Hospital inJackson. He was a native of Lawrence County.

He was a retired boilermaker with Local #582 in Baton Rouge, La.He was a member of Bethel Baptist Church. He served in the armyduring World War II. He was a veteran of the Pacific Campaign,awarded the Purple Heart for injuries sustained in action at Luzon,Phillipines.

Preceding him in death were his parents, Hulon L. and JanieBallard Thames; two sisters and a brother.

Survivors are his wife, Lillian Thames of Monticello; his son,Hollis Williamson of Monticello; his daughters, Sue Coleman ofMorris, Ill., and Becky Puckett of Ridgeland; his brothers, MelvinThames of Enterprise, Ala., and Shelton Thames of Baton Rouge, La.;his sisters, Huley Jones of Monticello and Yvonne Thurman ofRaymond; his grandchildren, Hollie Williamson of Monticello andFletch Peterson of Louisville; and dear friends, Kathleen Petty ofPetal and Linda Wallace of Brookhaven.
