Carjacking, kidnapping suspect ID’d

Monticello police have identified a suspect in the Sunday nightcarjacking and kidnapping of a 27-year-old Lawrence Countywoman.
Monticello Police Capt. Charles White said today there are twooutstanding warrants for McArther Mackey Jr., 20, of Nola Road,related to the incident.
Police are asking for anyone with information on Mackey’swhereabouts to contact the department. Mackey is believed to stillbe in the area.
White did not identify the victim of Sunday’s incident.
According to the victim’s statement, White said, she was at theintersection of Highways 27 and 84 around 6:30 p.m. when theincident occured.
“(The carjacker) repeatedly told the woman he had a gun and kepta hand in his pocket. She never saw a gun,” White said.
The man took control of the victim’s car and went north to NolaRoad, following it to Crawford Camp Lane, he said.
“At that point, she managed to jump from the car,” Whitesaid.
The victim was treated for minor injuries and released from anarea hospital Sunday night, he said.
The victim’s car was recovered Monday afternoon after ahigh-speed chase, but the suspect was not captured.
White and Monticello Police Chief David Stanley were en route toinvestigate a sighting of the vehicle along the Copiah County linewhen they passed it going in the opposite direction on Highway 27,White said. When they attempted to pull the car to the side of theroad, a chase began.
“He lost control and went into the edge of the woods, where hejumped from the vehicle and fled into the woods,” White said.
A lengthy search of the woods failed to locate the suspect.
