BC’s Kersee bags offensive MVP

Bogue Chitto senior running back Byron Kersee has been selectedMost Valuable Offensive Player on the 2009 All-Region 4-1A FootballTeam. The selection is voted on by the region coaches.
Kersee (5-11, 175) rushed the football 206 times for 1,647 yardsand scored 14 touchdowns. He caught 4 passes for 150 yards and 2TDs. Defensively, Kersee made 83 tackles (26 for losses), 4 sacks,forced 1 fumble and intercepted 1 pass as the Bobcats advanced tothe state playoffs.
“Byron had a great year for us,” said Bogue Chitto head footballcoach Gareth Sartin. “We counted and depended on him. Everybody weplayed knew Byron as our main back this year as opposed to the lasttwo or three years when we had more (backs).
“He really stepped up to that challenge. He is a great workerand a great kid. He always has a smile on his face. He was great towork with the last four years.”
Sartin said Kersee has been contacted by Southwest and Co-Linabout playing junior college football
The Region 4-1A MVP was Ruben Duckworth of Mt. Olive who led thePirates to the 1A state championship game. The defensive MVP wasJermaine Bloodsaw of Sebastopol. Robert Anderson of Dexter is theMVP lineman. Special teams MVP honors went to Daniel Huffines ofNatchez Cathedral.
Sebastopol was named Coaching Staff of the Year.
Also named to the First Team from Bogue Chitto were Cole Laird,Tevin Tobias, Shaun Wallace, Shane Lewis and Emanuel Magee.Selected to the Second Team were Colton McClendon, Kevin Brothern,Tyler Saucier and Javier Gee.
Representing West Lincoln on First Team are
Calvin Kees and Garrett Rushing. Tyler Case, Tray Moore, GrantRushing and Lemarco Le were selected to the Second Team.
Brothern led the Bobcats with 141 tackles. Tobis followd with102 stops. Wallace had 96 tackles followed by McClendon with 95.Lewis, as team punter, average 34 yards per punt. Wallace was alsoteam place kicker and was 18 of 19 on the season and made 3 of 5field goals.
The West Lincoln Bears, coached by Chris Calcote, were led byKees with 118 carries for 903 yards and 11 touchdowns.
Rushing, a sophomore linebacker, led the Bears with 117 tackles,including 35 solo stops and 1 interception.
