North Pike girls bag berth in title game

WESSON – The North Pike Lady Jaguars will square off against theDexter Lady Bulldogs tonight at 6 p.m. for the Wesson InvitationalGirls Tournament Title. North Pike is the defending tournamentchamp.
In the winner’s bracket Monday night, Dexter rallied to beatWesson 34-32 and North Pike eliminated Loyd Star 56-39.
Loser’s action saw Bogue Chitto crush Natchez Cathedral 70-42and St. Aloysius best Enterprise 41-35.
Dexter (14-3) came back with three big points in the final 20seconds to pull out the victory over Wesson (3-10). The Lady Cobrastrailed the Lady Bulldogs 8-5 in the first quarter and battled backto lead 12-10 at the half and 22-17 going into the final frame.
Hayley Carr directed the Lady Cobras with 13 points. threerebounds and three steals. Kia Turnbo scored eight points and ledoff the backboards with 11 rebounds. Shannell Adams grabbed sixrebounds.
For the Lady Bulldogs, Vanesha Warren led with 13 points.Netting nine points was Nikki Ratcliff.
North Pike 56, Loyd Star 39
“Loyd Star has a good team,” said North Pike girls coach John P.Stephens after the win . “We started out slow in the firsthalf.”
The Lady Jaguars (13-1) led 14-8 in the first quarter and 22-12at the half. North Pike pushed its lead to 15 points, 37-22, goinginto the fourth quarter.
“We played better in the second half,” said Loyd Star girlscoach Lori Britt.
Leading North Pike with 14 points was Britta Stephens. PheniciaTaylor finished with triple-double, 11 points, 10 rebounds and 12steals. Also netting 11 points was Jessica Turner. CharlotteRobinson had six rebounds. Leading with 12 steals was
Loyd Star got 14 points and six rebounds from Shara Johnsonbefore she fouled out with 2:38 left in the game. Ashton Williamspicked up 12 points and five rebounds.
Bogue Chitto 70, Natchez Cathedral 42
In the loser’s bracket, Marley Porter directed Bogue Chitto with20 points, including five 3-pointers. Chastity Avants pumped in 12points followed by Meleah Brown and Tamasha Johnson with 10 pointsapiece.
Leading Cathedral with 10 points each were Deanie Smith andLeighton McDaniel.
St. Aloysius 41, Enterprise 35
Sarah Kerot’s game-high 27 points pace St. Aloysius.
Enterprise got 16 points from Alisha Mason. Jana Brister nettednight points followed by Kaylin Burke with eight.
