The Jackson Jim Hill Tigers conducted a 3-point shooting clinicFriday night in Sinclair Gymnasium. They stretched the nets for 11treys in a 73-53 trouncing of the Ole Brook Panthers in Division6-4A action.

The Tigers (15-11, 7-3), fresh from a 79-64 Tuesday night homewin over No. 4-ranked McComb, appear ready to make another run inthe state playoffs. The defending South State champions were statetournament semifinalists last year. They are currently tied for thedivision lead with Wingfield which knocked off McComb 58-56 Fridaynight.

“We shot it pretty good,” said Hill head coach Fred Harris. “Weshoot a lot of shots. That’s our team.”

The best marksman was 6-2 senior guard Sollie Norwood who pumpedin 25 points, including 3 treys. Guard Flawaan Flaggs followed with17 points, including 3 treys. All-state quarterback Tony Hobson, anAlcorn State scholarship signee, added 11 points, also netting 3treys.

“Hill shot it consistently well,” said Ole Brook boys coachRonald Hines. “They are by far the best shooting team in ourdistrict.”

Five members of Hines’ squad were recognized on Senior Night:Michael Byrd, Wade Stewart, Kenneth Harris, Bud Chatman and MichaelThrasher.

The 6-4 Chatman had scored a career-high 36 points in a 100-71Jan. 14 loss at Hill. Friday night Chatman sustained a sprainedleft ankle just before halftime and sat out the rest of the game.He had 8 points and 4 rebounds.

The Panthers were led by junior point guard Jerome Avery’s 10points. On the backboards, Stewart had 8 rebounds.

Brookhaven (8-17, 2-7) plays its final two games of the seasonon the road, visiting Terry Tuesday and McComb Friday for divisionaction. The division tournament begins Feb. 14, at LawrenceCounty.
