Home runs by shortstop Seth Britt, first baseman Blake Wall andthird baseman David Cuevas powered the Loyd Star Hornets to a 12-2Tuesday trouncing of the St. Andrew’s Saints in a Division 6-2Ashowdown at Loyd Star. The game went 6 innings.

On the mound, Loyd Star senior Cass Brister struck out 9batters, walked 4 and gave up 4 hits, 2 of them infieldsingles.

“Cass held them down on the mound and we got off to a quickstart,” said Loyd Star coach Sidney Wheatley. “We scored early andthat gave us some confidence.”

Seth Britt, a senior, finished with 3 hits. Wall, Cuevas andJared Britt had 2 hits for the Hornets. Blake Porter doubled. LoganPortrey, Cody Cunningham and Justin Whatley singled.

Loyd Star scored 3 runs in the first and led 7-0 after 3 as Wallhomered in the 4-run third. Cuevas and Britt homered in thefourth.

In the JV game, the Saints beat Loyd Star 3-2. Justin Whatleydoubled for Loyd Star.

The Hornets (6-2, 1-0) play again Friday at Wesson in a divisiontest. Game time is 4:30 for the JV and 6:30 for the varsity.
