Weather: Brookhaven, Lincoln County schools, BA closed Monday

Brookhaven and Lincoln Countyschools and Brookhaven Academy will be closed Monday due to wintryweather that moved through the area Sunday and Sunday night,officials said.
The decision to not have classes was made after school officialsconsulted with Civil Defense Director Clifford Galey late Sunday.Copiah-Lincoln Community College officials said Wesson campusoffices will open and classes will meet starting at noonMonday.
Brookhaven School District Superintendent Lea Barrett also saidcity schools would be closed Monday.
“Better safe than sorry,” Barrett said.
Galey said Gov. Haley Barbour had issued a statement that allstate offices except those in the three coastal counties would beclosed Monday. The director was unsure if Lincoln County officeswould be closed Monday.
Elsewhere, Galey said he had heard no reports of accidents inLincoln County, but there have been some weather-relatedevents.
“We’ve had some sporadic power outages in the county, and somereports of limbs breaking because of ice,” Galey said.
Galey said he had made a trip around the outskirts of Brookhavenand things were passable as of around 9:45 p.m. Sunday.
“The bridges are not frozen yet, but the weather service issaying we could get some more rain,” he said. “The temperature willstay below freezing until sun up, and we could see some more limbsbroken.”
Galey advised residents to stay home Monday morning if theyawake and there are other closures in addition to the schools.
“There’s no sense in taking a chance,” he said.
