Joann Britt Brown, 75, passed away March 15, 2011, in her homein Wesson.
Visitation will be held Thursday, March 17, from 5 until 8 p.m. atBrookhaven Funeral Home on Natchez Avenue in Brookhaven. Serviceswill be held the following day at the funeral home chapel at 11a.m. Burial will be in the Mt. Zion Baptist Church Cemeteryfollowing the funeral home service.
She was born May 8, 1935, to Monroe and Salena Britt, of Wesson.After graduating from Copiah-Lincoln High School in 1953, sheattended Copiah-Lincoln Junior College, and later received herbachelor’s degree in education from the University of SouthernMississippi in 1961.
In 1954, she married Tommy Dean Brown, of Wesson. With both havingcareers in education, they lived in a number of places includingHolly Bluff, Enterprise, Durant, Carbon Hill, Ala., and CrystalSprings, and then settled in Wesson. After 37 years working ineducation, she retired in 1997. Her hobbies included crocheting,sewing, baking, and spending time with family.
She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers and threesisters.
She is survived by her husband; three children, Tommy Doyle Brown(Karen), of Brookhaven, Susan Brown McCoy (David), of Brandon, andReagan Lindsay Brown (Malinda) of Terry; seven grandchildren,Daniel Brown, Jeffery Brown, Mandy McCoy, Mitch McCoy, TimothyBrown, Cheyenne Bailey, and Sara Madalin Brown; and one sister,Mildred Britt Smith, of Wesson.
