The Enterprise Lady Yellow Jackets and theLoyd Star Hornets captured a split in Region 7-2A action Fridaynight at Enterprise Gymnasium.

    In the girls’ game, junior forward Caroleah Brister nailed a gamewinning shot from the left baseline to give the Lady Jackets a43-41 victory over the Lady Hornets.

    In boys’ action, the Hornets (7-7, 1-2) overpowered the Jackets andgrabbed their first district win on the season with a 51-36decision.

    Enterprise resumes basketball action Tuesday as they visit Wessonto battle their Region rivals for four games. The junior varsitygirls begin at 4 p.m., followed by the varsity at 6.

    Loyd Star returns home to host the Amite County Trojans Tuesday fora key Region matchup. The junior varsity boys’ tip off at 5 p.m.,followed by the varsity games.

Enterprise 43, Loyd Star41

    Basketball fans gathered to witness a tough, physical battle in thegirls’ game as both teams fought hard until the final buzzer. TheLady Hornets and Lady Jackets relied on their tough defense to keepthe game close.

    In the fourth quarter, Loyd Star and Enterprise continued to tradebaskets. The game looked promising to head into overtime untilBrister stole the show as she sank a 6-foot baseline jumper off ofan inbounds play with 5 seconds left.

    Brister directed the Lady Jackets (10-10, 2-2) with a team-high 22points. She also gathered 4 rebounds, 6 steals and 2 assists.Enterprise center Veonka Sanders had 6 rebounds, 3 blocked shots bywent scoreless.

    “This was a physical game,” said Enterprise coach Jill Nations.”Both teams battled till the very end. Caroleah Brister had a verygood game for us.

    “Loyd Star’s Tyrisha Patterson is a very good player and she istough to defend,” continued Nations. “Overall, I am extremely proudof the girls effort to battle hard and get the win.”

    Senior center Tyrisha Patterson was the offensive sparkplug for theLady Hornets (13-5, 2-1) with game-high 28 points, 15 rebounds and3 steals.

    “Enterprise came ready to play,” said Loyd Star coach Billy Vaughn.”Caroleah Brister had a big game and hit a big shot at the end.Overall, we missed too many free throws in the game and that hurtus down the stretch.”

    “I blame the lost on me,” stated Vaughn. “We were not ready toplay.”

Loyd Star 51, Enterprise36

    The Hornets came out eager to set the tone of the game as theyroared to 13-6 lead in the first quarter. Loyd Star continued tobuild on their lead as they took a 25-14 advantage intohalftime.

    Enterprise (6-13, 0-4) refused to give up in the second half battleto keep the close but Loyd Star denied their attempts with latesurges to maintain their lead and get the win.

    Junior forward Terion Williams was the offensive leader for theHornets with 13 points. Jarred Bullock contributed 10 points.

    “It was great to get our first win in district,” said Loyd Starcoach Gene (Moochie) Britt. “The guys came out ready and foughthard. I was extremely pleased with our bench play. They contributedsome good quality minutes and hit some big shots.

    “We are young team but we are steadily improving,” continued Britt.”Hopefully, we can continue to get better and stay in thehunt.”

    Junior forward Tomas Newman paced the Jackets with a team-high 12points.

    “We have to learn to be more consistent on playing a full game bothmentally and physically,” said Enterprise coach John Knight.

    In JV action, the Lady Hornets and Jackets were victorious.

    In girls’ action, Loyd Star prevailed 14-7 over the Lady Jackets asRuby McCullough directed the Lady Hornets with 8 points. HannahKirtfield paced Enterprise with 3 points.

    In the boys’ game, Enterprise collected a 27-21 win over Loyd Star.Travis Brinson pumped in a game-high 12 points to lead the Jackets,Forrest Scott provided 10 points.

    Edrick Alsworth directed the Hornets with 8 points.
