BA chops down Oak Forest teams

The visiting Oak Forest Yellow Jackets were smashed Saturdaynight 74-35 by the undefeated Brookhaven Academy Cougars in John R.Gray Gymnasium in a big District 4-AA game.
In the varsity girls game, unbeaten Brookhaven Academy (27-0,9-0) whipped Oak Forest 56-29.
The Cougars (19-0, 8-0) were led by Craig Smith’s 11 points.Jonathan Winborne fired in 10 points and made three steals. TreyWaldrop was tops off the backboards with six rebounds.
“We’re working at being a better team,” said Brookhaven Academyboys coach Dale Watts. “I was pleased with them tonight. We had ahard game at Presbyterian Christian (in Hattiesburg Friday night).It was a high-intensity game. I was pleased with the way the guysstepped it up tonight.”
Brookhaven led by one point, 8-7 at the end of the first quarterbefore the Cougars got going on a 25-10 run to secure a 33-17 leadat the half. Brookhaven continued to beat on Oak Forest on a 22-6run in the third quarter to go into the final frame up 55-23.
Darrell Graham led Oak Forest with 13 points.
Brookhaven Academy 56, Oak Forest 29
The Lady Cougars exploded for a 24-7 lead in the first quarterand pushed their lead to 35-19 over the Lady Jackets at thehalf.
Brookhaven, coached by Barry Gray, was lead to the win by JessieAltman’s 13 points, four rebounds and six steals. Netting 10 pointsand grabbing three rebounds was Kelli Byrd. Tops off the backboardswas Anna Gatlin with six rebounds.
Brennan Fitzgerald paced Oak Forest with 14 points.
Junior High Games
In the boys game, Seth Davis netted 19 points to lead Brookhavento a 65-30 win over Oak Forest. Trey Sharkey netted 12 points forOak Forest.
Emily Langley and Maddie Allen collected 10 points apiece tolead the Lady Cougars to a 34-18 win over the Lady Jackets. Langleypulled down eight rebounds followed by Holly Case with sevenrebounds.
In the seventh grade game, the Brookhaven boysfell to Adams County Christian School 40-26. Sawyer Wallace hadnine points for Brookhaven.
Brookhaven Academy entertains Bowling Green Tuesday for fourdistrict games.
