WESSON – Three Copiah-Lincoln Community College Lady Wolves havebeen named to the 2005 National Junior and Community CollegeAthletic Association (NJCAA) All-Region 23 Division II FastpitchSoftball Team. Jessica Melton of Bogue Chitto, Megan Bateman ofBrookhaven and Emily Horne of Pearland, Texas received All-Regionhonors.

“We are so proud to have three players selected to theAll-Region Team,” said third-year Lady Wolves head coach AllenKent. “Only 15 players are selected among the 15 community collegesin Mississippi. It is an honor for all three.”

Melton, a sophomore shortstop/outfielder, averaged .524 at theplate this season to go along with her 25-game hitting streak. Sheled the team in slugging percentage (.780), hits (43), doubles (9),triples (7) and was 20 for 20 in stolen bases.

“Jessica had a phenomenal year,” said Kent. “She reallyconcentrated more on defense this year as well as cutting hererrors in half from last season.”

Bateman, a freshman catcher, hit .333 for the year. She had a.986 fielding percentage with 198 put outs.

“Megan had a big turnaround this year,” said Kent. “She wasrecovering from a broken leg in the fall, but she worked hard andher bat came to life in the spring. Megan’s got a good head for thegame.”

Horne, a right hand pitcher, ended the season with a 21-4record. She pitched over 145 innings with a 1.01 ERA. Hornerecorded 161 strikeouts with only 21 walks in 27 games.

“Emily had a great year on the mound,” said Kent. “She took overthe majority of the pitching duties when out other pitcher was lostto injury for the season after only two games. Emily kept us inevery game and gave us a chance each time she took the mound.”

The Lady Wolves (27-6, 13-3) surpassed last year’srecord-setting school record of 25 wins with 27 victories in 2005.They were ranked as high as No. 5 in the NJCAA Division IIpoll.
