Pendleton tops signing group of Co-Lin sophs

WESSON – Cornerback Wesley Pendleton has signed a scholarshipwith Ole Miss. Pendleton, from Natchez, is among fourCopiah-Lincoln Community College sophomores who have signed withsenior colleges.
Also signing Wednesday were Co-Lin offensive linemen Larry Banks ofFayette and Oscar Johnson of Crystal Springs with Louisiana Techand linebacker Jordan Hunt of Meadville with Florida InternationalUniversity.
Banks (6-4, 325), Johnson (6-6, 350) and Hunt (6-1, 215) wereinstrumental in Co-Lin’s march to a 9-2 record and the SouthDivision championship.
Co-Lin freshman defensive back Calvin Jones of Petal has signedwith Alabama-Birmingham.
Pendleton, a 5-foot-10, 175-pound cornerback, posted 28 tackles, 11pass breakups and three interceptions this season forCopiah-Lincoln Community College. He earned first team All-Statehonors from the Mississippi Association of Community and JuniorCollege Coaches and was named the MACJC’s Most Valuable DefensiveBack. He also earned NJCAA All-Region XXIII first team honors andwas a NJCAA All-American in track.
Pendleton was an all-state track star at Natchez High School anddid not start playing football until the 11th grade.
“We’ve really tried to recruit hard in the defensive backfield, andWesley has played both safety and corner,” said Ole Miss coachHouston Nutt. “He is extremely fast, and I’m very excited abouthim.”
Safety Ivan Nicholas (5-11, 190), defensive tackle Gilbert Pena(6-4, 310), both of ASA College, N.Y.; and quarterback Zach Stoudt(6-5, 220) of Iowa Western also have signed with Ole Miss. All fourare expected to enroll at Ole Miss in January and participate inspring practice.
