The Possum Bowl returns to the Loyd Star community Friday nightat William E. Sambo Smith Field. The Loyd Star Hornets will hostthe Bogue Chitto Bobcats in a big game between Lincoln Countyrivals. The game kicks off at 7:30 p.m.

In other games involving Lincoln County teams, Lawrence Countyinvades Brookhaven, Enterprise travels to Natchez Cathedral, WestLincoln entertains Pelahatchie and Brookhaven Academy visits AmiteSchool Center.

Bogue Chitto fell to the Wesson Cobras 32-13 last week The Bobcats,coached by Gareth Sartin, are 2-1 on the season.

Sartin scouted Loyd Star and said that the Hornets have a goodteam.

“This should be a great game between two county rivals,” saidSartin. “Loyd Star will be fired up to play this game and we willbe pumped to play as well.”

In the loss to Wesson, Bogue Chitto was powered by quarterbackBrock Roberts with 151 passing yards on 7 completions of 20attempts. On the ground, Colton McClendon rushed for 67 yards on 9carries.

Defensively, Kevin Brothern led the Bobcats with 12 tackles. He wasfollowed by Jeremy Blackwell with 9 tackles and a fumblerecovery.

Loyd Star (0-3) lost to Richland 29-27 last Friday in a fourthquarter meltdown.

Hornets head coach Randall Huffman said the Bobcats have atalented, athletic team.

“Bogue Chitto has some big and fast players,” said Huffman. “BC isa well balanced team. They can throw and run the ball very well.They like to run a lot of misdirection plays at you.”

In the loss to Richland, senior running back Marquis Hayes led LoydStar’s ground game with 11 carries for 66 yards and a touchdown.Marquis Sims followed with 12 carries for 30 yards and atouchdown.

Defensively, Josh Butler was the leader for the Hornets with 6tackles, a sack and a fumble recovery. Sims provided 4 tackles, astrip and a fumble recovery. Last year, Loyd Star beat the Bobcats41-13 in first Possum Bowl since 2000.

Enterprise (1-1) posted its first win of the season last Friday, a35-6 victory over Lincoln County rival West Lincoln.

Cathedral (2-0) had an open date last week after beating Loyd Star48-34.

Enterprise first-year head coach Josh Garrett studied film onNatchez Cathedral and talked about the Green Wave.

“Cathedral has a very good team,” said Garrett. “Their quarterback(Caleb Upton) throws the ball extremely well. Our kids will beready for the challenge. We need a good week of practice toprepared ourselves for their aerial attacks.”

In the win over Loyd Star, two weeks ago, Cathedral quarterbackCaleb Upton completed 23 of 37 passes for a stunning 471 yards withfive touchdown and just one interception.

In the win over West Lincoln, running back Thomas Allen’s 4 rushesfor 66 yards powered Enterprise. Cody White led the aerial attackgoing 1 for 1 with 80 yards.

Defensively, the Fighting Jackets held the winless Bears to80-yards of total offense. James Wooley and Trent Sandifer led theattack with six tackles apiece. Cory Hickson provided four tackles.Prather recovered a fumble.

West Lincoln (0-2) head coach Chris Calcote said Pelahatchie willbe a tough team to beat. The Chiefs are 1-2 on the season.

Calcote said the Chiefs have got one of the best running backs, “wehave seen this year.”

We have got to eliminate our mistakes and play harder as a team,”continued Calcote

Pelahatchie lost to Noxapator 35-28 last Friday.

In the Bears’ loss to Enterprise last week, Deon Moore led the waywith 12 carries for 48 yards. Alston Bozeman provided 23 yards on 5carries.

Tyler Malone led West Lincoln defensively with four tackles. HunterFauver, Tyler Roberts, Alston Bozeman, Jonathan Smith and AustinMontgomery provided three tackles apiece. Fauver intercepted apass.

Players to watch for in the Pelahatchie’s lineup are RB/DB DarryanRagsdale, (5-11, 190, sr.), who gives the Chiefs a big weapon inthe backfield. QB/DB Darin Sherman (6-0, 195, so) and QB/DBLaBrandon Hill (6-1, 150, sr.) will run the offensive attack. LB/OLDerrick Coles (6-2, 210, sr.) and LB/OL Matt Pew (5-11, 200, sr.)will orchestrate the defense.

The Chiefs beat the Bears 33-12 last year.
