BA kickers lose twice

Brookhaven Academy lost two hard-fought physical district AAgames against two of the powerhouses in MAIS soccer. River Oaksbeat BA 2- 1 on Thursday and Central Hinds beat BA 4- 2Friday.
River Oaks 2, BA 1
In the game against River Oaks,
the Mustangs enjoyed a 2- 0 lead at halftime. BA responded in thesecond half with a great team effort. Myles Melancon scored BA’sgoal 15 minutes into the half. The Cougars kept the pressure on theRiver Oaks defense the rest of the half, but couldn’t break throughto tie the game.
Central Hinds 4, BA 2
in the Central Hinds game BA responded from the setback againstRiver Oaks the day before with their best team game of the year. BAled early 1-0 with a goal from Melancon.
Central Hinds responded with 3 first half goals to lead 3-1 at thehalf.
In the second half, both teams netted a goal with BA’s coming froma penalty kick by Myles Melancon that was set up by a takedown ofGrant Melancon in the penalty box.
Central Hinds is the No. 1 team in MAIS and had allowed one goalall year up to this game. Mark Rushing and Colby Kent gave greatindividual efforts to keep the game close.
“The team is starting to really play together with an aggressivestyle of soccer, that I hope has us peaking as the playoffs startnext week.” Said BA coach Clint Rounsaville.
BA’s next home game is Wednesday at 4 p.m., with a rematch againstRiver Oaks.
