Home going services for Wardy L. “Monty” Daniels, of Vidalia, La., are 10:30 a.m. on Monday, March 12, at First Baptist Church of Vidalia, with burial in Natchez National Cemetery. The Rev. Bill McCullin will officiate. Young’s Funeral Home in Vidalia is in charge of arrangements.
Visitation is Sunday from 5 until 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
Mr. Daniels, 69, died March 8, 2012. He was born in Woodville on April 11, 1942, to Wardy Daniels, of Sharp, La., and Marie English Daniels, of Rienzi.
He served his country in the U.S. Army in Hawaii and Vietnam. He married Kathryn Elaine Merritt on Christmas Eve of 1966. They made their home in Mississippi and Louisiana. Mr. Daniels retired from Canadian National Railroad and then worked with his wife in the family business, Daniels’ Basketry on Main Street in Natchez. As an adult, he met his Savior, Jesus Christ, and became a new man.
Preceding him in death were his parents; one sister, Celia Lou Daniels; father-in-law, Delcy R. Merritt Sr.; and one nephew, Stan Bland.
Survivors are his wife of 45 years, Elaine Daniels; son, Clinton L. Daniels; daughter, Peggy L. Daniels; mother-in-law, Dulcie Ruth Merritt; four grandchildren, Justin, Joshua, Amanda and Eva Daniels; sisters, Janice Allen and Ruby Daniels; brother, James Mark Daniels; a number of beloved sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews and their children; and many friends.
Pallbearers will be Bill Sandifer, Brandon Davidson, Clare Shields, Frank Vest, Richard Walker, Russ Walker, Stan Davison and Troy Orr.
Honorary pallbearers will be grandsons, nephews and brothers-in-law.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to one of his favorite charities, The American Family Radio, Relay for Life or First Baptist Church of Vidalia.
