An age that significantly altered the landscape of the arts andscience will be revisited Tuesday at 7 p.m. in Copiah-LincolnCommunity College’s Fine Arts Auditorium when the Ole Brook WindSymphony presents a special free concert.

The concert will include music from the Renaissance Period aswell as Puccini’s romantic aria Nessun Dorma. The aria is from theopera “Turandot,” which was one of Luciano Pavarotti’s greatestroles.

The Italian tenor, whose voice set the standard for tenors in thepostwar era, died in September at the age of 71.

“This is certainly intended to honor him and the passing of a greattalent of our generation,” said R. Shaw Furlow, director of bandsat Copiah-Lincoln and Ole Brook Wind Sympny conductor.

The concert will also feature a contemporary symphony written forthe wind ensemble by Robert W. Smith entitled “The Divine Comedy”based on Dante Aligheiri’s literary classic of the same name.

“It’s our first attempt to do a full symphony,” Furlow said. “It’sa major, major work.”

The symphony is composed of volunteers from Copiah, Lawrence,Lincoln, Franklin and Pike counties.

The Ole Brook Wind Symphony rehearses on Tuesday nights atAlexander Junior High School and welcomes new members.
