Wesson splits with Bogue Chitto

WESSON – Tyler Lumley and Cody King pumped in 15 points apieceTuesday night to lead the Wesson Cobras in a 66-48 win over theBogue Chitto Bobcats in varsity boys basketball action. Lumley alsocollected 9 rebounds and made 4 steals while King followed with 6rebounds, 4 steals and 4 assists.
In the girls game, Lady ‘Cat Kelli Howard fired in 17 points andpulled down 12 rebounds for a double-double and directed BogueChitto to a 46-33 victory over the Lady Cobras.
Friday night, Wesson travels to Cathedral and Bogue Chitto invadesEnterprise.
Wesson 66, Bogue Chitto 48
The 5-1 Wesson boys went up 18-8 over winless Bogue Chitto (0-3) inthe first quarter. At halftime, the Cobras led the Bobcats35-17.
“Our press was big tonight,” said Wesson boys coach Ron Kesslerafter the win. “We scored some easy baskets off our defense. BogueChitto is going to win a lot of games.”
Contributing to the Wesson win with 9 points (all treys) and 7steals was Jamar Sims. Samuel King added 8 points and made 5steals.
“Wesson has got a lot of basketball ability,” said Bogue Chittofirst year coach Curt Crain. With football season finally over atBogue Chitto, Crain has all of his basketball players. This wastheir first game together as a team.
Brian Robinson and Mike Harris powered the Bobcats with 10 pointsapiece. Javier Gee netted 3 treys for 9 points. Seth Avantsfinished with 7 points.
Bogue Chitto 46, Wesson 33
The Wesson girls (4-2) stayed within 5 points of Bogue Chitto (3-0)in the first quarter and at halftime, 22-17. In the second half,the ‘Cats outscored the Cobras 24-16 for the win.
“We had our moments,” said Bogue Chitto girls coach ChristiTerrell. “Overall, we played well. We had a good effort. Coach(Hugh) Webb does a good job with Wesson.”
Adding support to the ‘Cats win with 11 points and 8 rebounds wasDarcy Miller. Josie Porter collected 7 rebounds and had 5assists.
“We missed too many shots,” said Webb. “We had too many turnovers(25). Bogue Chitto outhustled and outplayed us.”
The Lady Cobras were led by center Ann Shelby Davis with 16 points,7 rebounds and 4 steals. Macie Case netted 8 points, grabbed 6rebounds and made 3 steals.
Junior varsity action
Kyle Cross and Gib Britt scored 9 points apiece to lead the Wessonboys to a 36-24 win over Bogue Chitto. During the second half ofthe boys game, Coach Crain received 2 technical fouls from refereeDavid Reed and was ejected. Crain went to the dressing room for theremainder of the game. Coach Terrell took over for the final 7:30of the contest.
Bogue Chitto was led by Gee with 11 points.
The Wesson girls beat Bogue Chitto 39-24. Hannah Selman had 11points for the Lady Cobras.
Ashley Bickham netted 8 for the ‘Cats.
