Gracie Ruth Castilaw Applewhite

Services for Gracie Ruth Castilaw Applewhite of Hazlehurst were4 p.m., Thursday, June 3, 2004 at Stringer Family Funeral Servicesin Hazlehurst with burial in New Providence Cemetery.

Visitation was Wednesday from 6-9 p.m. and Thursday from 2-4p.m. at the funeral home.

Mrs. Applewhite, 79, died May 31, 2004, at New Dawn RetirementCenter in Lincoln County. She was born on Jan. 22, 1925, to Leonand Laura Castilaw.

She graduated from Brookhaven High School in 1943. She worked asa secretary for the Mississippi Forestry Commission before going tonursing school at the University of Tennessee. She graduated fromnursing school Sept. 27, 1948. She was married to Hugh Applewhitefor 45 years. She was a member of New Providence Baptist Church.She served as church clerk, song director and Sunday schoolteacher. She did research of the church’s history and presentedhistorical minutes every year at New Providence’s homecomingservices. She was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s Disease in the late1980s.

Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband; one son,Mark Applewhite; one sister, Annie Mae Ables Durr; and twobrothers, James and Jesse.

Survivors are her daughters, Amy Allen, and Candi Case; herbrother, Proby Castilaw; and her five grandchildren.

James Lee

Services for James Lee of Baton Rouge, La. are noon, Saturday,June 5, at Pine Grove Baptist Church with burial in the churchcemetery. Services will be conducted by the Rev. Percy Turner.

Visitation is Friday from noon-5 p.m., at Marshall Funeral HomeChapel and Saturday from 10 a.m.-noon at the church.

Mr. Lee, 63, died Monday, May 31, 2004, in Fayette. He was bornin Jefferson County on April 7, 1941, to Bertha Doss and RobertLee.

He was employed with Fayette Enterprise and retired fromChristine’s Restaurant. He was a member of Pine Grove BaptistChurch.

Preceding him in death were his parents; his wife, Clara G. Lee;his son, Tyrone B. Lee; a sister, Odessa Doss; and a brother,Charles Doss.

Survivors are his daughter, Patricia Lee of Fayette; his sonsand daughters-in-law, James Lee Sr. and wife Brenda of Lorman,Charles and Sonya Lee, Arthur Lee, Lawrence Lee and James Harried,all of Fayette, and Maxion Lee, of Baton Rouge, La.; his sistersand brother-in-law, Mary Chambliss, and Ruby and Clemon Tenner, allof Fayette; his brother, Willie Doss; his grandchildren; his aunts,Elouise Doss of Baton Rouge and Lovie Doss of Fayette; his niece;his nephews; and a host of relatives and friends.

Memorials may be sent to Marshall Funeral Home in Bude.

Pallbearers will be Jerry L. Doss, Herbert Doss, Tony Doss,Percy Johnson, Terry Johnson and Fred Hunter.

Rayford Leggett

Services for Rayford Leggett of Brookhaven are 2 p.m., Sunday,June 6, at Community Funeral Services Chapel with burial at NewHope Church of Christ.

Visitation is Saturday from 5-9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Mr. Leggett, 73, died June 2, 2004, at Mississippi BaptistHospital. He was born in Lincoln County on July 29, 1930, to VanLeggett and Clara Johnson.

He was a retired oil field petroleum engineer.

Preceding him in death were his parents.

Mr. McDavid, 82, died Tuesday, June 1, 2004 in New Orleans.

He was an Army veteran of World War II and a retiredplumber.

Preceding him in death were his father and mother, John Whitneyand Bertha Ellendar Smith McDavid; a sister, Alice Horton; andthree brothers, Cloyce, Enois, and Lester McDavid.

Services for Yvonne McGlothing, formerly of Brookhaven, are 11a.m., Saturday, June 5, at Moak’s Creek Baptist Church. HartmanFuneral Home of McComb is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. McGlothing died May 30, 2004, in Houston, Texas. She wasborn in McComb of Aug. 8, 1920 to Julius Bonnom McGuffee and OvieThornhill McGuffee.

She was a resident of Brookhaven from 1961-1992. While inBrookhaven, she was employed by First Federal Saving and LoanAssociation. She was interested in history and genealogy and was amember of the Order of First Families of Mississippi and the OldBrook Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution. She wasa member of First Baptist Church.

Preceding her in death were her parents.

Survivors are her former husband, Charles McGlothing; herdaughter and son-in-law, Sam and David Boggess; her sister andbrother-in-law, Gerry and Pete Flowers; and her nephew, SonnyFlowers.

Mrs. White, 85, died June 2, 2004, at her residence.

She lived in Hazlehurst for over 40 years. She was a member ofDamascus Baptist Church.

Preceding her in death were three sisters, Mary Artigue, DonniceHuff and Mildred Spears; and two brothers, S.D. Bullock and RalphBullock.

Survivors are her daughters, Lottie Elaine Stuart of CrystalSprings, Linda Dear of Braxton and Ann Mullins of Byram; her sons,William Robert (W.R.)
