The final January meeting for the Brookhaven Board of Aldermen was conducted via phone on Tuesday, due to snow and icy conditions making travel unsafe.
The meeting lasted nine minutes, and aldermen mostly voted to approve regular monthly payouts and accept regular monthly reports.
The Brookhaven Fire Department reported 27 runs inside the city during December, and three runs outside the city limits. The Board tabled a recommendation from the Planning Commission on approving the placement of a cell tower on North First Street, until more information could be obtained.
In other business, the Board:
- Approved the appointment of CPA firm Lowery, Payne, Leggett & Bellipanni as City Auditor for the Fiscal Year 2023 audit.
- Adopted the 2025 state mileage reimbursement rate of 70 cents per mile.
- Approved pay request No. 1 to Tank Pro Inc. for work on Industrial Park Road Water Tank Project in the amount of $288,429.02, to be paid from infrastructure funds.
- Approved the retirement of Elvin B. Davis from the Janitorial Department.
- Approved a promotion for Brookhaven Police Department Cpl. Thomas Allen to Sgt. Effective Jan. 21, moving from $48,500 to $49,250 annually.
