BROOKHAVEN — An inch or two of powdery snow covers Lincoln County Tuesday afternoon. Dangerously low temperatures and potential refreezes of any snow melt could pose challenges Wednesday morning.

As a result, Lincoln County School District and Brookhaven School District announced plans to close Wednesday. David Martin, Lincoln County Schools Superintendent, first reached out to The Daily Leader Tuesday.

“Due to icy road conditions and below freeing temperatures all Lincoln County School District schools and offices will remain closed on Wednesday, January 22. We will resume our normal schedule on Thursday, January 23,” Martin said. “Stay safe, stay warm and continue to watch our Facebook page for further updates.”

Brookhaven School District Superintendent Rod Henderson echoed similar concerns for Wednesday.

“Due to the low temperatures and road conditions, Brookhaven School District will be closed tomorrow. I anticipate the roads returning to normal Wednesday evening which will allow us to return to normal operations Thursday.”

Brookhaven Academy and Co-Lin Community College have also cancelled class Wednesday.
