Forecast calls for temperatures to take arctic plunge

BROOKHAVEN — Colder weather is on the way the National Weather Service warns. Residents should enjoy the high temperatures reaching the 50s and 60s Saturday before they take a nose dive. 

Temperatures will drop from 67 degrees Saturday to 31 degrees Saturday night. Sunday will see the temperature warm up to 41 degrees before taking another plunge to 19 degrees Sunday night. Martin Luther King Jr. Day will see a high of 36 and a low of 19 degrees that night. Tuesday will have a high of 33. 

NWS Jackson warns dangerous cold weather is forecast to impact central and southwest Mississippi. Low cold temperatures will be below freezing with dangerously low wind chills.

According to the NWS, there could be a chance of winter precipitation for Mississippi. Forecasters will monitor for the potential of winter weather. 

The low temperatures will be a danger to exposed pipes and prolonged exposure could cause frostbite or hypothermia. The timing of these cold temperatures is Sunday night through next Wednesday. The dangerous cold could extend into late next week.
