BROOKHAVEN — Mississippi’s Weather is just starting to get nice and cold for the opening day of duck season on Thanksgiving. The first split of the duck season lasts through December 1. Hunters will then have to wait until Dec. 7 for the second split of the season which lasts until January 31.

The National Weather Service warns there is a marginal risk of severe storms to roll through southwest Mississippi Wednesday night into Thursday morning. Storms could be a concern for anyone who plans to start their thanksgiving day with a duck hunt or any other hunt. Be sure to check your local forecast before heading to the woods and let people know your plan in the event of an emergency.

Damaging wind gusts are possible, hail could accompany the storm up to a quarter in size. A tornado can not be ruled out with this storm risk. The weather risks could move through the area between midnight to 8 a.m. Thursday morning.
