BROOKHAVEN — Rainfall earlier this week appears to have been enough to pull about half of Lincoln County out of drought conditions. US Drought Monitor maps show there was considerable improvement across the region.
Around 48 percent of Lincoln County is no longer in drought conditions. Much of this area is the north and western regions of the County. However, 52 percent of the county remains in abnormally dry conditions which is the early stage of drought development. This block of abnormally dry conditions are in the southern and eastern portions of the county.
There is a 50 percent chance of rain next Monday night followed by a forecasted 20 percent chance Tuesday and Wednesday.
NWS Jackson forecasts the only real weather hazard in the coming days to be a chance of frost in portions of Lincoln County Friday night into Saturday morning. Temperatures could drop to a low of 34. This minor frost could cause minor damage to unprotected vegetation.
The frigid nights will not last for long. Sunday’s low will be around 56 as will Monday night’s low.
