Brookhaven Police Chief: ‘Mr. Gibson and family, I and my staff are with you in wanting justice to be served’

I want the Gibson Family to know that what happened to Mr. Gibson was wrong. I and my staff and this community doesn’t agree with this type of behavior by anyone. The lead detective and myself want to see this case go to trial and justice be served. Det. Fernando’s lifelong dream is to be a Law Enforcement Officer. His family paid for him to come to this country to obtain his dream. I have come to see since his time at Brookhaven Police Department, Det. Fernando is an honorable, just, and fair man. He would never be willing to throw his reputation and career away by hiding evidence in this case or any other case. Det. Fernando does not have access to pull body camera footage or to hide footage. He requested the body camera footage relevant to the Officers working the Gibson’s case. On September 17, 2024 a request was made by the DA’s Office to go back in 2022 and get all employees body camera footage from the day of the incident and 2 days after. Other videos that could be relevant to this case were located. This was turned over to the DA’s Office as requested.
Mr Gibson and family, I and my staff are with you in wanting Justice to be served.
