Board handles money matters

BROOKHAVEN — Lincoln County Board of Supervisors took care of a few financial needs Monday morning. The board meets in a regular meeting twice a month on the first and third Monday unless there is a holiday or otherwise stated.

The board also meets in a docket meeting between those meetings.

Lincoln County Engineer Ryan Holmes requested the board to approve a payment of $29,980.10 to Paul Jackson and Son for the HVAC project in the Lincoln County Courthouse. The payment is just a small part of a $3 million project.

“We will know more about a start date in November. We want to have eyes on equipment before we start. It is still a moving target but trending towards November,” Holmes said. “The main thing is to get it done before it gets too hot in the spring.”

Lincoln County Administrator Daniel Calcote took care of a few money matters although he did not have a financial report to give. One of the first requests was to transfer money to correct a few things for the state auditors to close out the Fiscal Year 2024.

Calcote explained at the end of the Fiscal Year they had a couple of funds that were in the negative. The E911 fund was short $179,980 at the end of the Fiscal Year. Calcote explained the fund continues to be short until the County can get more funding from phone companies. Supervisors voted to transfer $179,980 from the general fund to the E911 fund.

“We budgeted a little more for it this year but it is difficult to keep the E911 fund afloat,” Calcote said. “We don’t get the money we used to from phone companies.”

Calcote said the Sheriff’s Office Crime forfeiture account went a little negative but it is back to 0 now. The action now closed out FY2024.

Supervisors voted to transfer funds they budgeted to transfer in FY 2025. Calcote said the funds would come out of the general fund with $465,000 going to the Civic Center and $440,000 going to E911 Dispatch.
