Watermelon weigh-in Saturday

The annual Brookhaven Exchange Club Fair is open again this coming weekend Aug. 1-3 for the final time prior to schools opening for the 2024-2025 year. With two new game booths and cash giveaways, the fair will operate Thursday-Friday 6-9 p.m. and Saturday 4-8 p.m. Gate fee is $5, and arm bands are $10.

The Fourth-Grade Watermelon Weigh-In, sponsored by the Lincoln County Master Gardeners, will be Saturday, Aug. 3, 6-8 p.m. at the Fair. Area fourth-grade students were given Congo melon seeds in the spring by the Master Gardeners. Every student who brings his or her melon to be weighed will receive a free armband for rides that day, the final day of the Fair. Prizes will be awarded for the heaviest melon overall — $100 for first, $50 for second, and $25 for third place — and for the heaviest melon grown by a boy, and heaviest melon grown by a girl.
