BROOKHAVEN — The Lincoln Civic Center hosted its annual July 4th fireworks show Thursday night and it was about a 30 minute long, action packed celebration of American freedom. People and cars were spread out across the Civic Center complex to watch the fireworks show.
Mississippi Highway Patrol’s Mounted Division was at the Civic Center before the fireworks display. Lee Morrison said the horses Delta and Tank are often used in search and rescue missions but also play a role in the agency’s community outreach.
“It is a way we can bring a positive point of view of law enforcement for children, that is our goal,” Morrison said.
Lane and Elanie Nations volunteer with the horses and bring their pony Elvis for younger children to ride. Elvis may look small but he is 20 years old and is often requested the most.
Lincoln County Sheriff Chief Deputy Keith Dickerson and a group of young men carried out the firework show.
Sen. Jason Barrett, Rep. Becky Currie and Rep. Vince Mangold sponsored the event.
