Long term forecasts warn of heavy precipitation, extreme heat

BROOKHAVEN — The immediate week long forecast shows little weather oddities or risks but long term forecast warns of a slight chance for heavy precipitation and extreme heat. According to the National Weather Service, daily high tempertures this week will be between low 90s to high 90s while lows remain around 70 degrees.
NWS Jackson forecasts the next chance of rain to come Monday with a 50 percent chance on June 24. Long term forecasts warns the following day could start a week of heavy rainfall and a heat wave.
According to the NWS Climate Prediction Center, Lincoln County and Southwest Mississippi will be at a slight risk of excessive heat from June 25 to July 1. The NWS warns of a slight risk for heavy rainfall for Southwest Mississippi from June 25 to June 29.
At the same time, NWS warns of a 20 percent probability of a tropical cyclone forming in the Gulf of Mexico from June 26 to July 2.
The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration reports two ongoing disturbances in the gulf, one off the coast of northern Mexico and south Texas and the other east of Florida. Neither disturbance has turned into a cyclone and there are no named storms in the 7 day forecast.
