TOPEKA — At 4 a.m. Monday morning, Monticello Fire Department and Lawrence County Fire Service were dispatched to rescue a man entrapped in a home. A tree had crashed down on the residence.
Monticello Fire Department released a statement about the incident Monday following severe storms which pushed through the area hitting Bogue Chitto, Jayess and Topeka hard. Fire units were sent to Robert Tynes Road to assist with multiple trees down and major storm damage. One tree fell on a home and pinned a man inside.
“Fire units and ambulance crews were able to get to him and make contact with him rather quickly to be able to start assessing the situation and providing care,” Monticello Fire Department stated. “It did take a little while to get equipment to the residence due to the amount of trees being down.”
After five hours, crews were able to successfully extricate the man and get him to a lifeguard ambulance where he was taken to Southwest Regional Mississippi Medical Center in McComb.
“Thank you to everyone that assisted with the extrication and with tree removal this morning,” Monticello Fire Department wrote.
