BROOKHAVEN — A new grocery store will come to Brookhaven on the heels of Save-A-Lot announcing its plans to close. The breaking business news is one of several stories to spawn out of 601 Sports moving to the old Rite-Aid building. 

Readers asked about rumors concerning Save-A-Lot closing and if Aldi’s would open. Save-A-Lot’s corporate office has not returned requests for comment yet. ALDI responded Friday afternoon. Heather Moore, Loxley Divisional Vice President, confirmed the national grocery store was coming to Lincoln County. Loxley is the public relations firm which serves ALDI.

“We are excited to confirm we are planning to open a store in Brookhaven, MS this fall,” Moore said. “At this time, we do not have any additional information but will be sure to reach back out in the coming months with more detail on its opening.”

The company did not state where they would open in Brookhaven or when specifically in the fall the store would open. We will provide updates on those details as they become available.

ALDI announced earlier this year it planned to open about 800 new stores across the country. The southeastern US is one of the regions ALDI is focusing on opening stores in.

Save-A-Lot closing

According to a sign posted at the Save-A-Lot, located at 840 Brookway Boulevard, the store will indeed close and informs customers they can shop at their store in Pearl after the last day of business.  Save-A-Lot’s closure will leave Brookhaven with two grocery stores, Sullivans and Walmart at this time.

The store will officially close on April 27 according to the sign. Frozen, Dairy, Grocery and Packaged meat department products are 25 percent off right now.
