Janet Doremus Wamnes, 60, of Port St Lucie, Florida passed away on April 1, 2024.  Janet was born December 12, 1963 in Columbus, Mississippi.

Janet was born in Columbus, Mississippi, to James W. and Barbara Sisson Doremus.  In the spring of 1967, her parents moved with Janet and her three older brothers to Brookhaven, Mississippi.  Janet attended St. Francis Elementary School and Lipsey Junior High. As a teen, she and her parents moved to Paragould, Arkansas, where she completed her high school education.  Janet graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree from Mississippi State University.  While attending Mississippi State, she served as a research assistant in the Food Science Department. Janet obtained her Master’s Degree in Food Science and Technology from Mississippi  State in 1989.

Upon graduation, Janet moved to Ft. Pierce, Florida.  She was employed by the State of Florida Department of Health for thirty-four years and served as the Regional Environmental Epidemiologist.

Janet’s interest in fitness and nutrition began in middle school. This was evident in her career and lifestyle. Janet could often be found in the gym or completing her daily run. She served as a board member in her local HOA and attended Westside Church in Ft. Pierce.

Janet was preceded in death by her husband of twenty years, Robert “Bob” Wamnes; mother, Barbara Sisson Doremus; father, James W. Doremus Jr.
A memorial service will be held Thursday, April 18, 11:00 a.m. at Westside Church. Westside Church is located at 3361 S. Jenkins Rd, Ft. Pierce, Florida. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Westside Church.
