BROOKHAVEN — Lincoln County started to get rain Saturday and more is forecast to move through the area into Sunday. Severe storms are also a threat tomorrow during Super Bowl Sunday.

National Weather Service in Jackson forecasts a 70 percent chance of rain for Lincoln County Saturday night. Rainfall could total a quarter of an inch to half an inch. Gusts could reach 20 mph during the night and temperatures will cool down to a low of 62.

Sunday is forecast to have showers and a thunderstorm before 9 a.m. Rain chances are 80 percent for the day. Showers and thunderstorms could pop up again until 3 p.m. Some of those storms could be severe and high temperatures are forecast to hit 74. Gusts of wind could reach 20 mph.

NWS Jackson warns these severe storms could produce damaging wind gusts up to 60 mph, hail quarter to golf ball size and possibly tornadoes mainly along and south of the I-20 corridor. These conditions will persist into the evening.

More rain could follow Sunday night into the evening. There is a chance of severe storms. Sunday night’s low will drop to 54 degrees.

Lincoln County residents should expect a 20 percent chance of rain Monday and sunny days the rest of the week until Friday when rain chances pick up again.
