Seven vehicles were burglarized in Brookhaven over the weekend, and one vehicle stolen, according to Police Chief Kenneth Collins.
The stolen vehicle has been recovered, Collins said, as well as another vehicle which was stolen from an outside area but recovered in Brookhaven.
“We’re asking all citizens to please keep your vehicles locked, and keep your valuables — purses, laptops, cell phones, guns — out of your vehicles, or out of plain sight,” Collins said.
The chief also stressed that vehicle keys should not be left in the vehicle.
“Most of the time, your vehicle keys will also have the keys to your house with them,” he said.
Collins thanked the homeowners who have submitted security videos to police to aid in the investigation. Suspects in the videos are masked up or with hoodies on, he said.
“We’re going to need the public’s help to start keeping their vehicles locked, and keep valuables out, because they’re pulling on door handles to see which ones are open, and plundering in the early morning anywhere from 1 a.m. to daylight. They’re walking the paths, the train tracks, and staying out of sight.
“We’re doing all we can and it’s going to take all of us working together, because all of these vehicles were open. None were broken into.”
Anyone with information on the burglaries is asked to contact BPD at 601-833-2424.
