Motorists on I-55 should use caution traveling through Copiah County this afternoon.

Traffic is backed up along several miles of Interstate 55 in Copiah County as crews work to reach grass fires along the right of way, according to the Mississippi Department of Transportation.

Traffic is jammed from Hwy. 28 at Hazlehurst north to Gallman Road in the northbound lanes, and from Hwy. 27 at Crystal Springs in the southbound lanes past Georgetown Street.

Mississippi Forestry crews are attempted to reach and extinguish multiple grass fires.

Traffic cannot redirect fully down Hwy. 51, however, due to a road closure from Industrial Drive to Miller Road between Gallman and Hazlehurst. The road is closed in both directions for bridge repair until June 2024.
