BROOKHAVEN — Drought conditions persist but there is hope for some rain today. A line of rain clouds has formed to our west across the Louisiana and Arkansas delta.
National Weather Service in Jackson forecasts a 40 percent chance of rain today with showers likely between 12 and 1 p.m. There is a 50 percent chance of rain this evening.
Sadly, the line of rain clouds will dissipate when they hit the Lincoln County line according to Weather Channel radar. The system is working from west to east and the forecast may change but right now there is still a sliver of hope for rain to fall.
If it does rain, Lincoln County will remain under a burn ban. It would take a substantial amount of rainfall to lift a burn ban here. Drought conditions are forecast to persist to November although they should get better according to long range forecasts on the National Weather Service website.
Friday has a 30 percent chance of rain before the weather returns to sunny and warm. Lows Saturday and Sunday night are forecast to be around 48.
