BROOKHAVEN — Rumbles of thunder and dark clouds are moving across Lincoln County Sunday afternoon. National Weather Service in Jackson has issued a severe thunderstorm watch until 10 p.m. Sunday evening.

Brookhaven has a 40 percent chance of precipitation from now until Monday night and the heat index will be at 102 the rest of Sunday and 103 Monday morning. The isolated severe thunderstorms could produce damaging wind gusts or hail so it is best to stay weather aware.

Wind gusts could reach 60 mph according to the NWS and localized heavy downpours could accompany this rain. Severe thunderstorms are the smallest threat this week looking at the long range forecast.

NWS Jackson has forecast the high temperatures for Wednesday through Friday to hit 98 degrees and with high humidity could push the heat index to between 110 and 115. Heat stroke would become increasingly likely with prolonged outdoor activity.

It is best to start getting hydrated now and stay hydrated throughout the week to beat the heat. The positive is the mixture of rain and sunlight could be a great combination for gardens and food plots and hopefully will produce good fruit.

Check back for more updates throughout the week. Saturday, the day of Brookstock, could be a wet one with a 60 percent chance of rain but that forecast could change.
