BROOKHAVEN — Fiscal Year 2023 is halfway through and County Administrator David Calcote said there is nothing abnormal about the budget. He reported five departments spent over 50 percent of their budget at this point in the year to the board of supervisors Monday. 

Lincoln County has received 72.9 percent of budgeted receipts which is normal by the end of March, Calcote said. Receipts for the rest of the year will be less but should bring in enough funds for the rest of the budget. He reminded the board they typically get their bulk of receipts early in the year. Total expenditures are 35.5 percent of the budgeted amounts through March. 

Lincoln County’s Board of Supervisors spent 62.4 percent of annual budgeted expenditures due to liability insurance premium payments and annual appropriations sent out in October. Buildings and Grounds spent 61.1 percent of its annual budgeted expenditures due to final payments made on a roofing project for Civil Defense in March. Calcote said the department should be alright for the rest of the year.

Litter and Solid Waste spent 71.7 percent of its annual budgeted expenditures in a large part due to the Lincoln County Hazardous Waste Day. Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality will provide a grant to reimburse half of those expenses, Calcote said. 

District One’s road fund spent 86.3 percent of its annual budgeted expenditures. The high percentage is due to engineering fees and road construction costs paid on paving projects from 2021-to-2022. District Five’s road fund spent 67.7 percent of its annual budgeted expenditures due to a large payment to McComb based company Dickerson and Bowen Construction in November for 2021-to-2022 paving projects.

Lincoln County Board of Supervisors will meet again on May 1 for a regularly scheduled meeting. They additionally meet on May 11 and May 30 for the Payroll and Accounts Payable Docket.
